Optical Microscopy

There are two basic types of optical microscopes: simple microscopes or compound microscopes. A simple microscope uses the optical power of a single lens or group of lenses to achieve the required magnification.

A compound microscope uses a lens system, where a second set of lenses magnifies the image created by a first set of lenses—thus obtaining a much higher magnification.
